چکیده

Abstract Purpose The aims of the study were to investigate interaction between fractions organic matter and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in bottom sediments use mussels as passive biomonitors consensus-based sediment quality guidelines for ecological risk assessment sediments. Methods Bottom samples taken from 46 points located Ro?nów reservoir (Poland). (SOM) characteristics included total carbon (TC), (TOC), humic acid (Cha), fulvic (Cfa), non-hydrolysing (Cnh), dissolved (DOC). extraction procedure was carried out well freeze-dried mussel tissue directly determine accumulation potential PAHs living organisms their natural environment. Results content following order: Cfa (fulvic acid) > Cnh (non-hydrolysing carbon) Cha (humic DOC (dissolved carbon). mean ?16PAHs (?g kg ?1 ) concentration 1755.2 ± 724 (total) 256 254 (bioavailable) 1740 72.2 tissues. A significant positive correlation found tissues bioavailable Conclusion PAH depended on stabile forms Cnh. Principal component analysis (PCA) suggests that fine fraction can significantly increase bioavailability be an important factor distribution

Biodegradation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Petroleum Contaminated Soils

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are a class of potentially hazardous chemicals of environmental and health concern. PAHs are one of the most prevalent groups of contaminants found in soil. Biodegradation of complex hydrocarbon usually requires the cooperation of more than single specie. In this research biotreatment of PAH (phenanthrene) was studied in a solid-phase reactor using indigenou...

Sources and distribution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in sediments, Thailand

To assess the distribution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and identifying the main source of the pollutants in coastal, canals, riverine and the upper Gulf of Thailand, surface sediments were collected from urban canals (n = 8), the Chao Phraya River (n = 11), estuarine (n = 9), coastal area (n = 14) and the upper Gulf of Thailand (n = 28) and analyzed for 3-7 rings of PAHs. Sources...

Source apportionment of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in surface sediments of the Huangpu River, Shanghai, China.

We applied cluster analysis and principal component analysis (PCA) with multivariate linear regression (MLR) to apportion sources of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in surface sediments of the Huangpu River in Shanghai, China, based on the measured PAH concentrations of 32 samples collected at eight sites in four seasons in 2006. The results indicate that petrogenic and pyrogenic source...

The Role of Seabed Dynamics In Controlling the Distribution and Preservation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Estuarine Sediments

Our objectives are to examine sediment PAH distributions in environments representing contrasting depositional regimes within the York River, VA, a sub-estuary of the Chesapeake Bay. Our study utilizes a suite of geochemical tools to quantify sediment processes influencing the distribution of dissolved and solid-phase PAHs. These tools will enable us to quantify particle residence times in surf...
